CBAM Cost Estimator
What will CBAM cost your exports, year by year?
Pick your country of production and CN code. The estimator loads the official default value and benchmark, then shows your certificate cost from 2026 to 2034. Add your verified emissions to see what better data is worth.
Your EU importer is the CBAM declarant and buys the certificates. In practice, the cost comes back to you through price and contract negotiations.
Advanced settings
Below 50 tonnes a year, imports of these goods are generally exempt from CBAM. The threshold applies to your EU importer's total imports, so check with them.
There is no default value for this CN code. Enter a value under Advanced settings, or choose another product.
Annual certificate cost
Free allocation shrinks each year, so the cost rises steeply after 2029.
| Year | Free allocation | Default mark-up | Default values | Verified data | Saving |

All figures are estimated and for orientation only. Default values come from Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/2621 as corrected by Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1740, and benchmarks from Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/2620; the free allocation schedule follows Directive 2003/87/EC. For some products the benchmark differs for 2026 to 2027 and 2028 to 2030; after 2030 the 2028 to 2030 value is used. Where a country has no value for a product, the value for other countries and territories is used. The default scenario uses the benchmark for the route the default value assumes. The verified scenario applies the benchmark for your route to your total embedded emissions, which approximates the step-by-step calculation for complex goods. The estimator uses one certificate price for all years and does not adjust the carbon price paid at origin for rebates. A July 2026 Commission proposal would slow the free allocation phase-out; it is not reflected here unless adopted. This is not legal advice.

Get a CN-level assessment of your exposure
This estimator covers one product at a time. A real assessment maps every CN code, production route and precursor, and shows where verified data and supplier contracts cut your cost.
I have done this for Novelis across 340+ CN codes and for BHP through a mock verification audit. Send your details and I will reply within two working days.
